Welcome Back, Canyon Hills High School Students and Families: Week One is in the Books!

This week is Spirit Week! Show that CH Rattler Spirit!

Hello Canyon Hills Rattlers!

We had an amazing first week. The students are very excited to be back and we have been happy to see them. We started visiting classes to see students and staff and it made us very happy to see their smiling faces (albeit under their masks). Tomorrow, Monday September 5th, 2021 is Labor Day and we have no school. See you on Tuesday for the start of our second week! Above you will find the flyer for SPIRIT WEEK that starts on Tuesday.

Make-Up Picture Day

Makeup Picture Day for students and staff is September 8th and 22nd from 9:30am to 2:30pm in the Media Center.

BLUE SLIPS

WE DO NOT HAVE OFFICE MONITORS. STUDENTS MUST PICK UP

BLUE SLIPS IN THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE! MUST HAVE A BLUE SLIP TO LEAVE CAMPUS.

Requests for early release (Blue Slip) must be submitted BEFORE 8:00a.m.on the day of release (parents may phone in PRIOR to 08:00 a.m. or send a note with your student and he/she must bring it to the Attendance Office PRIOR to 08:30 a.m.)

Requests for early release received after 8:00 a.m. on the day of release cannot be honored.

Students who become ill during the school day MUST visit the Health Office for assessment. If is determined that a student needs to go home, parents will be contacted and the Health Office staff will issue the Blue Slip.

COVID Procedures

Students must use ClearPass before coming to school. Best way is on laptop at home:

or we will have a QR Code at the gates. This is the safest way to screen for COVID symptoms.

Please have your child fill out ClearPass daily. If your child marks yes to any of the questions, please contact the health office and we will guide you through the required protocols.

No over the counter medications will be given at schools – no Ibuprofen, Tylenol, or Tums.

Testing

This link will take you to the main testing website: https://www.sandiegounified.org/covid-19_status/c_o_v_i_d-19_testing here you will find:

· The link for parent portal where you can electronically complete the opt-in/out for testing.

· UCSD’s Release of Information and Consents.

· Paper version of all forms.

Link to sign up for symptomatic testing – students and staff who are symptomatic please go to the north parking lot and pull up along the curb near the media center – someone will walk out to the vehicle for testing. Symptomatic staff and students must remain in their vehicle. https://covidtestscheduler.ucsd.edu/home/sym/SDUCanyonHills.

Skateboards/Bikes/Scooters

Canyon Hills promotes all methods of transportation to school. However, to promote safety of all, we have a culture and climate where all of those items are locked up during the day. Teachers do not house them in classrooms because we have several bike racks and a skateboard and scooter rack. The bike rack is located by the 700 and 800 buildings and the skateboard and scooter rack is in the 200 building. We already have students abusing the use of these modes of transportation, and we are not in the business of getting into arguments over them. If your child brings these items to school, they are expected to lock them up in the proper place. Please speak to your child about the expectation and provide them a lock.

Should a power struggle occur, your child's item will be taken and it will be on them to come home and tell you why they don't have it, and the parent or guardian's responsibility to come and pick up the item. Thank you for your support on this issue.

Want to help us keep CHHS an amazing place to be? Nominations are being taken now for...

School Site Council (SSC): This group determines how money in Title 1 and LCFF are spent (money for things that support ALL students). In addition, there other responsibilities as well. We need TWO parents and TWO students. Email Nicholas Willis at nwillis@sandi.net if you or your student is interested. If you are on another committee we politely ask that you allow others to be able to participate.

BELL SCHEDULE

The minimum and short days were eliminated this year. Canyon Hills has the same schedule every single day to provide consistency for families except on the final exam days. Note: Most students start at 8:45 in Period 1.

Superintendent Search

Please join the district in their search for a new SDUSD Superintendent!

9th Grade Academy!

Hello Class of 2025! We are so excited to have you here at Canyon Hills High School. Did you know that the Class of 2025 has its own newsletter? Do you know the 9th grade has an Academy this year? When you have a moment, please check out the newsletter (linked below) so you can learn all about it! We are looking forward to getting to know each and every one of our students and their families as we begin this new school year. Welcome to CHHS!

Ms. Elizabeth Ward, Vice Principal, Class of 2025 and the CHHS Admin team and Staff.

CHHS Counseling!

Counselors are here to help you! The way your students ask to see their counselor is by going to the CHHS website and clicking on the "Counseling Tab"--then they click on their counselor to fill out a form. Counselors will then call them to the office. Here's what the page looks like:

We have a new counselor this year as Dr. Mora retired. Mr. Gonzales was heavily recruited and we know your students are in good hands. He can't wait to meet you all! He is the Counselor for the Class of 2024.

CHHS Athletics

ALL ATHLETIC INFORMATION--PLEASE GO TO GOCONQUISTADORS.COM

All athletic packets can be uploaded and handed in this way. You do not need to come in and drop them off. Please go to goconquistadors.com and follow the instructions.

Athletics is a very complex program. It's like running a whole separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and reach out to the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the largest programs in the county and state.

Have a great weekend and we can't wait to see you all on TUESDAY!
