Hello Rattler Nation!
We had a wonderful week of welcoming our freshmen (below) for their bridging day, and we also got to see some of our returning students through packet pick-up and drop-off.

We spent three days preparing our awesome classrooms, schedule, and campus for you, including a new front of the school. We started athletics and have already won an award. We know it is going to be a great year. Make sure to follow us on social media too!
Follow Us on Social Media:

Cheer: They won the first-ever spirit stick given at Cheer camp. They beat out many teams for this, and we couldn't be prouder of them.

Staff List:
To serve you as fast as possible, please make sure you are emailing the person who can help you! We want to be as responsive as possible, and we don't want to have to go through multiple people to get what you need done!
Please bookmark or print this list:
PARKING:
The front lot of the school is for parking only for office staff. There is a vast parking lot to the south of the school near TS Blvd. In addition, we have a new drop-off lane in front of the 1000 building and a new drop-off in the parking lot to the south.
****Please do not park in our spots. Often, we are coming and going from various events, but other times, in case of an emergency, we need to be able to move all of our cars for things like fire, police, EMS, etc. We will be warning and ticketing this year, as emergency services have been blocked. Sorry!***
Calendar: We always preview the calendar for the upcoming week.

Commitments to you and your students:
There are many commitments we make to you as a Rattler Community. There are two I want to make sure you remember:
You are entitled to your child's up-to-date grades. Please hold our staff accountable by reaching out to the teacher and asking why they may not have been updated. If the issue continues, please email the teacher and copy the proper Associate Principal.
Mr. Willis: World Language, Math, Science
Mr. Liew: English, History, VAPA, PE
You are entitled to a response via email or phone within 48 hours. We are usually faster than that, but again, we need to be held accountable to respond to our community. Vacations/breaks/weekend, this rule does not apply as I, as a leader, strive for my staff to have a proper work-life balance and make sure they are committing to their own families as well as yours.
First Day of School Procedures for Students
To help you start the school year smoothly, please review the following first-day procedures:
Student ID & First Period Info:
Grade-level boards will be posted behind the Admin Building and the Media Center, listing Student ID numbers and first-period classroom assignments.
Full Class Schedule:
You will receive your full schedule from your first-period teacher once you are in class.
Need Help?
Counselors and staff will be stationed outside to assist you. If you don’t know your Student ID number, find a Counselor and they will provide it for you.
Welcoming Environment:
We’ll have music playing, our ASB students out in full force, and all of our Canyon Hills staff ready to greet and support you!
Schedule Changes:
As we begin the new school year, we want to provide clarity regarding student class schedules. Counselors strive to keep schedule changes to a minimum; however, some adjustments may be necessary to accommodate the overall master schedule. We ask that students follow their current schedule as is.
Students were given two opportunities last year to review and request changes to their schedule. At this point, counselors will only make corrections in the event of a significant error, such as:
Being scheduled for two of the same classes
Missing a required course for graduation
If your student identifies a significant error in their schedule, they must submit a correction request using the Course Change Form https://bit.ly/ScheduleRequest2025CHHS
.
Please do not email counselors directly with change requests. Only submissions through the form will be reviewed. Counselors will process requests in the order of priority need, and we appreciate your patience during this time to support the many new students enrolling. The counseling office will be closed for walk-ins unless a counselor has specifically called a student in with a pass.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
In addition, these signs will be around campus to help your child as well as all the staff:

SDUSD Cell Phone Free Schools Policy: CHHS utilizes 5-STAR, a district educational app that meets policy guidelines for phone usage. However, all other uses are restricted and limited. Please read the policy so you understand, and we can support each other. These posters are in every classroom and will be reviewed with students.

Bocce Ball Tournament: Tomorrow! This is our ONE BIG Fundraiser for the year! You don't even have to form a team (although you still need to register); you have numerous options to come out and support. Please review the details and select the option that best suits your needs. We also encourage alumni to form teams! You can even just donate!

Attendance: There are three ways at CHHS to report
To report an absence, there are three ways:

Call the school at 619-605-8100 ext. 3026

Want to help us keep CHHS a fantastic place to be? There are FOUR ways for you AND your student!
1. Foundation: Parent Group focused on fundraising for our students! Even if you can't donate your time, you can donate by joining as a member. Click here: https://canyonhillsfoundation.org/
2. Class Boosters: Want to know everything going on in your child's graduating class that is an opportunity you don't want to miss out on? Sign up for your Class Booster at the bottom of the Blog, where it will always be accessible each week. Don't miss out by signing up now!
Nominations:
1. School Site Council (SSC): This group determines how money in Title 1 and LCFF are spent (cash for things that support ALL students). In addition, they have other responsibilities as well. We need one parent and three students. If your child is an English Language Learner, we would LOVE you to join!) If you are on another committee, we politely ask that you allow others to participate. Please email YY LIew at yliew@sandi.net
2. Governance: This group discusses and advises the Principal on instructional issues and policies on campus. We are looking for two students and two parents. Please email Nicholas Willis nwillis@sandi.net
Principal's Coffee: What is this? This is a one-and-a-half-hour session with my entire team, including me, where we discuss all things CHHS every month. We then stay and address any questions, rumors, concerns, anxieties, or celebrations you may have. We are here for you! Mark your calendars! This meeting is for the parents of currently attending students only, please.
Please Note: The district has moved to Microsoft Teams. There is no Zoom option unless the meeting is scheduled for 30 minutes or less. Please ensure that if you do not have Microsoft Teams, you download it.
Here is the link for the flyer as well: COFFEE

Counselors:
Counselors are here to help you! Your students ask to see their counselor by going to the CHHS website and clicking on the "Counseling Tab"-then, they click on their counselor to fill out the form. Counselors will then call them to the office. The days when I was in high school, waiting in the Counseling Office, are behind me. This is much more streamlined today. However, in emergencies, you are welcome to come in. "I want to pop in and ask a question during the passing period:" of course! Here's what the page looks like:

Athletic: ALL ATHLETIC INFORMATION--
Athletics is a very complex program. It's like running a separate school altogether. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations, but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.
The AW Weekly: This lets you know all the Home Games that are happening around campus, so your students can get involved, whether cheering on their friends or participating directly. Your family can always come out and support as well.

We can't wait to see you!
