We have been crushing it this week in so many areas it was hard to keep up.
Mr. V and the Canyon Hills High School Multimedia Productions Team (above) provided the Music and Public Address System at the San Diego High School Sports Association All-Star Night at the Balboa Park Club on Feb. 6. This team provided a top-notch professional listening experience for the awards ceremony for Coaching Legends, family and friends. Students have been busy receiving accolades for solving social issues in our society and making sure we at CHHS are a safe space for everyone. Counseling has so many offerings for your students; make sure you read that. Band and Theater:
Nicholas Urmaza was accepted into the All-State Honor Band and the All-Southern Honor Band (for Southern CA). He performed in Sacramento on 1/19 for All-State, and he will be performing in Orange County on 2/9 for All-Southern. He is representing Canyon Hills in both. We are so excited for him! VAPA is alive and well at CHHS.
Theater:
Two weeks ago, our Thespian Troupe 11590 won 2nd place at the San Diego Thespian Play Festival! We brought a 30-minute cutting of our fall play Dracula to the festival held at Scripps Ranch. Students performed in front of a panel of local theatre professionals and received helpful feedback on their performance.
Last weekend, we hosted the Jumpstart Mini-Conference in the auditorium, where 200+ middle and high school students from across San Diego Unified participated in theatre workshops hosted by La Jolla Playhouse teaching artists and also got to see the opening number from our upcoming musical, Be More Chill. Art:

Aspen's Challenge:
Again this year, students come together as a team to try and take on societal issues and strategize how to work towards solutions for that issue while competing against other high schools.
Rachel's Challenge:
A movement making sure everyone at CHHS knows that this is a safe space and to remember to be kind. This is a movement after the Columbine shooting to make more awareness of the impact we have on others.
Enginnering:
Engineering participated in a tug of War. No, not with hands; check it out.
Senior Nights: So many!
We had Water Polo and Basketball. More are to come next week.

Saturday School is Back: Semester 1 absences and tardies roll into Semester 2. It was in the weekly blog in Semester 1, warning me about this.
Students receive academic support, clear six tardies/ absences (improve citizenship), and clear tardies and absences to attend a school function.

FAFSA/Dream ACT
San Diego Unified School District is hosting workshops to help students complete the FAFSA/Dream Act Applications. The FAFSA/DREAM ACT is a free government form that students can use to apply for college or career school financial aid. The FAFSA can help students determine eligibility for grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and loans. Workshops provide one-on-one assistance and guidance. Students can pre-register to guarantee one-on-one guidance, but walk-ins are also welcomed.

Athletics:
Athletics is a very complex program—it's like running a separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.
Spring Sports!!!!!
Canyon Hills offers many opportunities for Spring Sports. These sports start officially at the beginning of February. Specific dates and times are available for each sport. If you have not yet signed up for the spring sport, please go to athleticclearance.com and sign up today. You will also need to upload your sports physical. If you have already completed everything on athleticclearance.com, make sure you have added your spring sport. Everyone must create or update their account for this year on athleticclearance.com.
