Open House, Vaccines, and Student Events!

Hello Rattlers!

We had a great week this week and we would like to thank each one of you for being very supportive...Thank you! Next week is the final week of Grading period 1--although these grades do not go on student transcripts, they are a good indicator of progress. The grading period ends Friday and teachers submit grades Monday morning. Let's encourage all of our students to have a great academic week next week and finish strong. In addition, please go on Parent Portal and check your students grades today. Please reach out to the teacher before the grades are final on Monday!

TIK TOK Challenge

I never usually have to address social media challenges. However, I am beyond disturbed at what is happening nationwide. Remember the ice bucket challenge years ago? Challenges are happening all the time now and many times it's youth who attempt these challenges and many times injuries have taken place or illegal activity is promoted. TIK TOK has posted (which has gone viral) and it has already started on campuses throughout the nation, a "school" challenge for every month of the year. While this has caused minimal damage on our campus, we would like for you to have a discussion with your children about the importance of "See Something, Say Something." If you Google this topic, you will find more than enough information. Thank you for your help in keeping CHHS a safe learning environment for all students and staff!

9th Grade Academy!

Hello Class of 2025! Congrats to our new 9th grade Class President, Jake L.! And to all 9th grade RATTLERS, we are so excited to have you here at Canyon Hills High School. Did you know that the Class of 2025 has its own newsletter? It's updated every week! The Freshman Advisory Board will soon be posting pictures of freshmen doing great things, as well as highlighting freshmen teacher standouts, and announcing information from all 9th grade classes.

Vaccines-- Required Now by SDUSD Board of Education

This past week a message went out to all families from the district letting them know that at Tuesday's Board Meeting there was going to be a conversation and a vote as to whether to mandate vaccines in school. Many people on both sides showed up and in addition it was broadcast on Zoom. In the end the Board voted to mandate vaccines at this point for students, 16 and older as well as all staff.

What does this even mean?

The student timeline to receive full Covid-19 vaccinations will be based on age groups, aligned with full FDA approval. Currently, the FDA has fully approved vaccinations for children ages 16 and older. Because of that, for those 16 and older who have not yet been vaccinated, San Diego Unified has set a schedule requiring a first Covid-19 vaccination by November 29 and a second dose by December 20.

Students 16 and older who are not fully vaccinated by December 20 would not be permitted to participate in on-site education and will not be participating in extracurricular activities on campus either.

When we know more about what any of this looks like we will let you know but please make sure you do not get yourself into a position where you try to get an appointment at a late date and cannot. Please start the process now to avoid undue stress on your student and you all as families.

***We absolutely do not want to have to tell you and your child that you can not participate in on-site learning; that would be heartbreaking for us. Help us, help you!***

Principal's Coffee

We had a great coffee this morning--thank you to all who attended. You can see the presentation here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ozUGN3ILOKCrA8ZEz0LGEXTUsZ74kfqIBuamKpdENGU/edit?usp=sharing

COVID forms:

COVID TESTING OPT-IN FORM & LEGAL CONSENT FORM: CLARIFICATION

  • There are two forms that we are asking parents to fill out independently:

    • 1st Form-District’s COVID Testing Opt-In Form:

      • Purpose: to let the district know whether or not parents would like their child to participate in the weekly COVID testing at their school site.

      • The district uses this form to ensure that all families know the benefit of testing onsite.

    • 2nd Form- Legal Consent Form to have a lab test:

      • Purpose: to allow our lab partners to legally test students for COVID.

  • Students who do not have a consent form may not take a COVID test.

    • On the testing day, only the lab partner can verify with their list the names of students that have the Legal Consent Form completed and who may test.

Please fill the form out and help us avoid issues with our testing site. We volunteered to do this for the cluster and we are hitting many bumps because proper paperwork is not filled out.

SENIORS

Do you have a Senior? Well CHHS has a Booster Club so you can stay up to date on things and events pertaining to them:

The Canyon Hills Parent Class Boosters is a parent organization that supports your student's graduating class (22, 23, 24, 25) with activities and events not typically sponsored by the school. As your student approaches senior year, through fundraising and donations, this group helps offset the cost and implement activities like grad-night, senior luncheon, graduation venue, powder-puff, and more. Let's connect so your student can have a great senior year!! https://sites.google.com/view/serraclassboosters/homePlease remind your students that school begins at 845 AM--be on time!
