Want to help us keep CHHS an amazing place to be? Nominations are being taken now for...

School Site Council (SSC): This group determines how money in Title 1 and LCFF are spent (money for things that support ALL students). In addition, there other responsibilities as well. We need TWO parents. Email Nicholas Willis at nwillis@sandi.net if you or your student is interested.

LOTS OF REMINDERS and RULES--WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Skateboards--Not Allowed Unless Locked Up.

We have had two injuries sustained by people walking and someone is skateboarding on campus--which is not allowed--and hit someone. One person has a concussion. This was advertised several times and now we have no choice but to require all skateboards to be locked up. If you child has a skateboard they have one week to get a lock and lock it up in our skateboard lockers (200 building) or we will hold them for them and they will have to tell you to come pick it up. I've never had to do this but students are skating every period and in between. This is a liability for us and you! We do not want to be the skateboard police so we have to do this. I'm sorry.

Masks:

Students are doing an amazing job with masks. However we are handing out over 200 a day. You need to provide your child with a mask and make sure that they have it when they leave the house. We cannot keep providing the large quantities we are. I personally have a box of them in my car in case I forget (for my children or myself).

Thanks!

Adult Behavior On Campus and at Events:

There has been a high uptick in student misbehavior this year. We know we have all faced challenging times attempting to live in a world we never imagined. However, while we do everything within our power to do the best we can to serve your students and their issues/concerns as it is our job, it is NOT our job to be attacked by adults. There hasn't been ONE day that my office staff, teachers, or Administration has not been cussed at, screamed at, or touched in an aggressive manner over the last couple of weeks.

I have never in all my years seen such behavior from adults and while we are trying to be understanding I would be remiss if I didn't address it.

If an adult approaches a teacher, nurse, administration, my office staff, or coach and are screaming and cussing---instead of me trying to calm you and have you come into my office as I have done everyday since school started--I'm going to ask you to leave and take a 14-day cool down period.

In addition, relating to Athletics--the same applies to practices and games. No parent is allowed to be on the field unless it is a Booster President and no parent should be speaking to a coach for 24 hours after a game. In fact, parents shouldn't be speaking to the coach at all other than the President of the Booster.

Let the coaches coach, and the players play.

Again, any direct violation of this will be a 14-day cool down period in which you will not be allowed to attend your child's games at all.

We are human and while we have given grace every day for a few weeks, we also have a school to run and 1500 students to serve.

We thank you for your proactiveness to remain professional even when frustrated. These are frustrating times and we are all dealing with it together.

COVID forms:

COVID TESTING OPT-IN FORM & LEGAL CONSENT FORM: CLARIFICATION

  • There are two forms that we are asking parents to fill out independently:

    • 1st Form-District’s COVID Testing Opt-In Form:

      • Purpose: to let the district know whether or not parents would like their child to participate in the weekly COVID testing at their school site.

      • The district uses this form to ensure that all families know the benefit of testing onsite.

    • 2nd Form- Legal Consent Form to have a lab test:

      • Purpose: to allow our lab partners to legally test students for COVID.

  • Students who do not have a consent form may not take a COVID test.

    • On the testing day, only the lab partner can verify with their list the names of students that have the Legal Consent Form completed and who may test.

Please fill the form out and help us avoid issues with our testing site. We volunteered to do this for the cluster and we are hitting many bumps because proper paperwork is not filled out.

Athletic Testing:

If you are an Athlete you must test weekly for COVID. If you are vaccinated you don't have to as it's voluntary. Please follow the instructions to sign up on chrattlers.com.

National Merit Scholars:

We want to congratulate the following semi-finalists:

Tyler Bodenhamer---not Christopher! (Our apologies.)

Annie Do

Maya Ruhe

PSAT and AP Testing:

PSAT is being offered to all 11th graders right now. In the Spring we will be offering it to 10th graders for a fee. Stay tuned for that. They will take place on October 26th, 2021.

AP Registration will begin shortly--stay tuned and ask your student for more details!

Calendar: I always take a screenshot as seen below and review it.

Friday is Principal's Coffee--See you all there!

A NOTE FROM ASB!--CLUB RUSH COMING!

Counseling:

Starting the week of September 27, Counselors will be going into classrooms to present a new platform, called Xello. This platform will help students learn more about their learning styles, career exploration and many other activities that will lead to potential post-secondary planning. Counselors will start presenting to seniors since this is the portal that seniors will use for college applications.

There are NO MORE schedule changes. Counselors have been meeting with students and have met most requests, yet there are some requests that are not possible due to graduation requirements and class availability. If students are struggling in a course, we recommend parents and students to reach out to teachers and see how teachers can support them and help students be successful in their courses. We recommend parents check PowerSchool on a weekly basis to assure that the student remains on track.

Do you have a Senior? Well CHHS has a Booster Club so you can stay up to date on things and events pertaining to them:

The Canyon Hills Parent Class Boosters is a parent organization that supports your student's graduating class (22, 23, 24, 25) with activities and events not typically sponsored by the school. As your student approaches senior year, through fundraising and donations, this group helps offset the cost and implement activities like grad-night, senior luncheon, graduation venue, powder-puff, and more.
