Hello Rattler Nation-
The front of the school is almost complete with our new art installation. It is really starting to come together, and so many students are complimenting it. If you haven't seen the art or the giant CHHS letters we put out front in person, swing by and check them out. Our students and the community deserve the very best, and we are making sure they get it!

LatinX Heritage Month:
CHHS Students were featured on the district social media and website for the fantastic work they are doing, and also how they are living the fact that this is Latinx Heritage Month. They had Mr. Gonzalez to support them, and they are making people district-wide pay attention to the fantastic work our students are doing.
Check it out!
Senior College Night:
We had a packed house for Senior College night, where parents heard from colleges like MiraMar and SDSU, and got their transcripts with their class ranks for college applications. There are a ton of things we do to help students through the entire college application process. The presentation of those services and what parents saw this week is in the Counselor Connection under the Counseling Section. Please check this page regularly!

CCTE Construction Starts the Tiny Home Project for a family in need! We have so many amazing pathways. One is our Construction Pathway, and in the second course, after much practice, they get to start to build a tiny home! Check it Out!
4x4 or Block Scheduling:
The BOE approved for three schools to move from a 6-period Day to a block or 4x4 schedule. If you have missed the flow of articles or news segments, do not worry. Those media releases speak very generically about the schools and why. CHHS Admin will be drafting a letter to all parents about the articulation/ scheduling timeline, and also what you can expect. Get ready for many new courses never offered and acceleration and rediation, your child can access all during the school day and not after school when they have activities like VAPA and Athletics.
As Principal, I would NEVER implement something that I would not want for my own children. I have three, and they are all very different.
Graduated from Serra in 2020 with a 4.2
One is a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder
One is neurotypical
This scheduling can really benefit all of them. If you watched the board meeting as I presented, I was clear: I said I would never implement anything I would not want for my own children, but I also said that if the high school in the neighborhood in which I live (and it is an SDUSD school) doesnt have a 4x4 when the time comes, my children will not be attending there. I'm not sure if they want to go to HS with their mom, but if it isn't a 4x4, they aren't going. Poway USD, Mater Dei, and many of the top districts and schools in the state are on a 4x4.
More to come on this. Here is some News:
The Holidays are Coming, and so are tax write-offs!

Saturday School is Back: If you have absences, you are required to attend the Saturday School sessions.
HOW IT WORKS: There is a link with a date (see below). The link opens on WEDNESDAY before Saturday. It begins on that day because we need to staff it appropriately. Years ago, we opened it on Mondays, and many students signed up, but they wouldn't show. Then the staff showed up, and we had to send them home.
If you do not maintain proper attendance, you will start losing privileges if your attendance is not recorded correctly and cleared. Sign up below to view the following dates and mark your calendar.

Monday | Nothing |
Tuesday | SSC at 8 AM |
Wednesday | Blood Drive |
Thursday | Light on Student Event and Theater Play |
Friday | Theater Play |

Counseling:

The CHHS Counselor Connection is your one-stop newsletter for important updates, deadlines, and opportunities at CHHS. Each issue includes:
Key dates (progress reports, field trips, workshops, etc.)
Grade-level announcements (college visits, presentations, resources)
Counseling and wellness updates to help you succeed
Recently, UCSD admissions presented to our seniors about campus life, admissions, deadlines, and important application guidelines. We have more colleges ready to meet and contribute to our seniors. To attend these presentations, Seniors must sign in using the Google form listed on the CHHS Counseling Connection Page.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce a district-wide FAFSA event on Saturday, November 15, from 9 AM to 12 PM in our school's Media Center. We encourage all students and parents to attend for assistance in completing the FAFSA/CADAA application for college tuition.
Athletic: ALL ATHLETIC INFORMATION- chrattlers.com
Athletics is a very complex program. It's like running a separate school altogether. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations, but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.
Boys Water Polo!

The AW Weekly: This lets you know about all the home games happening around campus, so your students can get involved, whether cheering on their friends or participating directly. Your family can also come out and support you.
