Hello Rattler Nation!
Special Edition blogs come out from time to time in order to communicate items that can not wait until Friday. This is one of those times.
As I'm sure you are aware the district on Thursday declared a possible day off on November 12th, 2021. This is the day after Veteran's Day. They stated to use this day as a mental health day as this year has been difficult as we all adjust to returning to school: staff, students, and community being the focus of the need to take a break.
I addressed this in my Blog and in Principal's Coffee on Friday morning. Friday evening a message went to families that many voiced their concerns to the district about childcare on that Friday and the district responded by saying school would remain open for those that needed it to be. This reverse in course is the district attempts to meet the needs of all students district wide.
CHHS recognizes that mental health is incredibly important. We also recognize finding childcare at the last minute is also a concern--as a mother I can understand.
The district has stated that should you choose to keep your student home you will be marked EXCUSED. You will incur no "cost" to taking your mental health day and should enjoy it.
Those of you that are not in a position to keep your child at home due to work schedules or another variable are welcome to have your child to come to school for the day.
No instruction is going to be taught on Friday. Your child will not miss or be responsible for information. We will have a plan for those that choose to come.
The issue in the media and on social media is around the issue substitutes. I have always been transparent that that is a daily issue district-wide and state-wide. However lack of subs will not stop us from welcoming your students and doing everything we can to support you and your student. I will always update you as we progress through the year and issues such as these arise.
Please enjoy your Thursday and Friday this week and if your student will be attending school we welcome them with open arms.
REMINDER: This Thursday is Veteran's Day and has always been slated for a day off and will remain so.
This is the best community in all of SDUSD. You have been amazing for the last two plus years as we live in a world we never imagined. It is always and will always be an honor to serve you and your children.
