Hello Rattler Nation!
We have very exciting news. I was not able to attend the colorguard competition this weekend because I was in Aizona for a college trip with some of our seniors. The students wanted me to know that they won and made this video for me....it was so special to have them do this for me. They are number 1 and moving forward. Special shout out to Melissa Barton for all her hard work. We are so happy for them.

We have been busy with playoff games this past week. We watched soccer and basketball, and both boys and girls won all their games on Tuesday. Then we had games Thursday and Friday semi-finals. All of them are challenging games at this level. The team to advance to the CIF semi-finals is Boys Soccer. They play Tuesday night at home against Southwest EC. Tickets can be bought on gofan.com

IMIN After and Before School Programs:

I talk a lot about our after and before-school programs, and I always hear things like, "I didn't know you had that?" I want to ensure you know there are many things here to do for students and make them feel connected. We also have experiences for students such as field trips, people in the industry, driver ed., and more. PLEASE look at this site and check it out. We are also working on balancing things for the AM because of athletes, etc, since they are away at games and other students have jobs. Below is a picture of only one part of the front page.
College Trip to Grand Canyon University:
About 20-25 students attend a college tour at GCU every year. Mr. Gonzalez, Mr. Stewart, and I are responsible for ensuring they meet all the criteria, and then every year, they ask me to go with them. Why me??? I have no idea; however, how can you say no to students?! They fly on a plane, eat for free, stay in a mock dorm, and see a D1 basketball game, all while looking at their interests and the colleges they have around them. They had so much fun in Arizona; seeing their faces light up at the experience was so special.
More large chairs for CHHS!
Students built more chairs and added other structures to make the school more impressive. Students use these to sit in, take pictures, and wait for their friends. We want to thank Mr. Toma and Mr. Snedden, and we are ready to get our Art teacher folded into the mix. Check it out:
First Generation Scholars present to the Class of 2026:

Students who are first-generation scholars present to the juniors and educate them that whether they pick a career out of high school or are the first in their family to want to go to college, this group and the school can support them the entire way, whatever path they choose. They get direct help, help with FAFSA, someone who pushes them to stay on deadline, how to apply, and read their scholarship letters (which is super confusing to all of us if you have never seen one). CHHS supports you through the entire process.
Did you know that many employees at Canyon Hills are first-generation scholars? I am one myself, and it was a dream of mine to support our students with the process, educate parents, and help them through the process regardless of what language they speak..

ASB: LOTS GOING ON!
ASB Olympics!
Every year, all SDUSD high school ASBs gather in the spirit of friendly competition and team bonding. This year’s ASB Olympics were hosted at Patric Henry High School. ASBs competed against each other in games like Capture the Flag, Pickleball, Kickball, and more. While the Crawford Cults took home the gold medal in points, Canyon Hills stole the gold with their SPIRIT!
ASB Elections!
ASB will begin looking for members for next year in the coming weeks! We are searching for selfless, spirited students who want to make Canyon Hills a better place for all students. Students must have a 2.0 GPA, good attendance, and a heart of gold! Application packets will be available soon!

Counseling:

FAFSA/Dream ACT
San Diego Unified School District is hosting workshops to help students complete the FAFSA/Dream Act Applications. The FAFSA/DREAM ACT is a free government form that students can use to apply for college or career school financial aid. The FAFSA can help students determine eligibility for grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and loans. Workshops provide one-on-one assistance and guidance. Students can pre-register to guarantee one-on-one guidance, but walk-ins are also welcomed.
Scholarships: We also always have all or other scholarships posted under counseling on our website, and you can see that here:https://canyonhillsrattlers.wixsite.com/website-4

Athletics:
Athletics is a very complex program—it's like running a separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.
