A Week of Arts, Athletics, and a Holiday Approaching and one request for Parents!

Rattler Nation!

We have had a busy week, watching excellent instruction, sporting events, Senior Nights, and some VAPA. Check out all these photos! Marching Band took home many awards and two first-place trophies at their season's first competition at Bonita Vista. CHHS Field Hockey does it again, being ranked #1 in California and nationally!

Cross-Country Sophomore Boys Win the Championship on Mt. SAC 2023 Invitation. Volleyball dominated last night for league playoffs and had their Senior Night. Lastly, Girls Tennis, Hannah Lov-Truong won the Singles League Championship and was Player of the year for the third time.

I also saw something I have never seen in my eight years as Principal. At Girls Senior Night for Volleyball, I saw FOUR Boy Team's coaches and many staff cheering our girls on. Boys Basketball, Lacrosse, Baseball, and four staff came out to support! Such a fantastic group of adults modeling the behavior we want our students to have.

In the last few weeks, we finished collecting LCFF forms and THANK YOU! However, I need the next and final round of cards, the Federal Survey Cards. LCFF is one funding source, and FSA is the other. PLEASE fill this out. California will lose funding this year and all COVID monies are going away. This will not be a great financial situation for us, and changes will happen. We need this money and badly. Please support us by filling it out. ITS ONLINE!

Dear Parents:

We ask everyone to utilize the parent portal to complete the federal survey. Please click on the QR code below to complete the “2023-24 Impact Aid Program Survey Form.” This survey is very helpful for our school to receive federal funding based on those families that live on federal property, including military housing. If you need assistance with your parent portal, please get in touch with Ms. Rosa at rpenamoya@sandi.net. I appreciate your support.

Halloween Guidelines: We hold very strict guidelines for costumes. There are varying reasons for this, and they are outside of the dress code due to varying reasons. Please review with your student to avoid us having to address them. We want them to have fun without us being the costume police. Here are the guidelines:

Calendar: Mark your calendars: Nov 4th at 9 am is Sports Physicals! November 2-4 is our Play and we are so excited. See the flyer for the play below.

Red Ribbon Week: Substance Abuse presentations are happening in the Media Center all week.

Winter Sports Meeting for students is at lunch in the gym.

VAPING EVENT for Parents:

October 24th: a free conference for parents and educators to attend. Feel free to place it in the blog if you think it’s appropriate. Here is the direct registration link: Conference — Parents Against Vaping E-cigarettes

Athletic: ALL ATHLETIC INFORMATION--PLEASE GO TO https://chrattlers.com/. All athletic packets can be uploaded and handed in this way. You do not need to come in and drop them off. The game this upcoming Friday is against Hoover High at Hoover, and all our games are listed in the Athletic Weekly below.

Sports Physicals!!!!! November 4th, at 9 Am in the Front Office

Athletics is a very complex program. It's like running a whole separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site, so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.

ASB:

ASB has been very hard at work in many aspects:

  • We are working on decorating a Halloween-themed hallway that will eventually turn into a haunted house for the school's movie night.

  • We have a team brainstorming and executing the haunted house in the 400 building that the students can attend for free.

  • We will be watching “The Nightmare Before Christmas” while this haunted house will live, for the night before Halloween. clubs will be selling snacks and beverages for those watching. We have also been working on side projects like student sections, lip dubs, senior and junior activities, and marketing all our events on social media and in person.

  • ASB member, Tiffani Brown has been marketing for the Halloween spirit week this week, trying to get everything like the spirit week posters, the bulletin announcement regarding the spirit week costume days, and the student costume contest.

Club Spotlight! This week’s club spotlight is Key Club! Key Club works to promote a strong community through their efforts of community service. We wanted to send a warm welcome to Key Club’s new advisor Mr. Snedden who has adopted this club and kept it alive. Key Club meets every Tuesday in the Media Center so feel free to stop by!

Saturday School: Saturday School

Saturday School is how your student clears absences and tardies. Should they accumulate them, this is the only way to remove them and impact differing sporting events and school events. If your students want to be able to participate and they have absences and tardies, they need to attend. The form opens up and closes at noon on Friday before Saturday School. We "close" them so we can staff them accordingly. You can see the form and sign up here:

Snack Bar Sign-Ups! If you want to help CHHS, this is a fantastic way to get involved and catch a free game

Booster Clubs are created by each "Class Of" to raise funds to create unforgettable experiences for your students. Items include caps for graduation, prom ticket prices lowered, organizing Grad Night, and having fundraisers to pull this off. They work very hard and need your support. Please go to your student's "Class Of" website and join the registry to stay up to date on all things going on with your student's graduating class.
