4-Day Weekend Ahead--Say What?

Hello Rattlers!

We have a series of items to talk about and lots of things coming up before Thanksgiving.

Events last week:

We had an amazing dance, and football game. Students overwhelmingly were well behaved and parents were able to come and support us. I brought my sons to football game and many of the students were playing with them--so cute. My son won student of the week and got to bring Sara the Squirrel home and take pictures with her. Cheer was more than happy to help Rex get his picture. He was so excited he started shaking.

Today:

CIF waterpolo game tonight as well and we are in the Quarterfinals!

We had a great Principals Coffee this morning and you can watch the video and presentation here:

.

Tuesday: Governance Meeting--Teachers, Staff, and Students come together to talk about Instructional Items on Campus

Thursday and Friday: NO SCHOOL --please take this time to rest mentally and physically

Senior Fundraiser:

Senior Class See's Candies Fundraiser is now open October 25 to December 3, 2021:

SO WHATS THIS ABOUT A 4 DAY WEEKEND??? YOU HEARD WHEN I DID!

A message went out to parents and district staff letting us all know that on Tuesday the BOE will vote on whether to have school on Friday after Veterans Day--Veterans Day is already a non-school day. That would give you as families a four day weekend. Please take advantage of it. As principal I acknowledge you and the staffs need for a much needed break. However other days are instructional and we still have staff shortages and we appreciate your patience as we continue to educate our students when short-staffed.

Vaccine Mandate:

My understanding is that a letter will be going to you from the district--not us-- with an update on the mandate. This communication I believe may be coming today. When you receive it, is when I receive it. I know some of you are frustrated by the lack of information and then not liking the information you receive. I apologize.

FAQ's??????

1. How do I know that the district has a copy of my child's vaccine status?

Any time you get a vaccine it goes into the county registry--whether you knew it or not--this database is what is used. You DO NOT need to provide us with your vaccine card. We got your status at the district and will only access it when it is time to do so. The exception is if you got the COVID-19 vaccine out-of-state or on a military installation.

2. When will my student have to leave CHHS and where will they go if they are unvaccinated?

The beginning fo Semester 2 then your child can go to IHIGH Virtual Academy in SDUSD. Please look them up on the district website and ENROLL now! Do not wait as there is already a waiting list.

3. What if my child turns 16 in say March--whats the timeline then?

I have no answer to that yet. However, if you know you are going to get vaccinated do it now and dont wait. If you are unsure then you need to stay tuned as more info will be coming.

4. But my student can still graduate with CHHS right?

No. You will no longer be a student of CHHS and therefore you would not be on our legal graduation document. Only students on the doc can graduate as graduation is a legal ceremony.

5. Can my student attend Prom, Graduation Night, senior events?

No. You are not a student of our school any longer. In addition all those events will require you be vaccinated so you can not come as a guest.

Lastly, know that when you switch school Junior or Senior year you will be asked by college why that transfer occurred. If vaccination is the answer and that college has a vaccination mandate then you may have your acceptance rescinded or not accepted at all---Food for though so make sure you are exploring which schools have mandates and which do not when selecting schools to apply to.

We are here to support you through all of this and appreciate your support. Please also know that many times we--or I--find out when you do and anything is subject to change based on powers outside of the school--example: State mandate or BOE decisions.

Athletics:

I am getting a large amount of emails about athletics. Please go to chrattlers.com. Literally everything is right there for you. Your students athletes will attend a meeting this Monday in the gym.

An event for Families:

SENIORS

Do you have a Senior? Well CHHS has a Booster Club so you can stay up to date on things and events pertaining to them:

The Canyon Hills/Serra Parent Class Boosters is a parent organization that supports your student's graduating class with activities and events not typically sponsored by the school. As your student approaches senior year, through fundraising and donations, this group helps offset the cost and implement activities like grad-night, prom, senior luncheon, graduation venue, powder-puff, and more.
