Hello Rattler Nation-
We had a great week. We had a series of games and wins across the board. I was at Volleyball where we won against SDHS. The girls did a great job, and we are proud of them.
We had a great 9th-grade workshop where freshmen learned about GPA and attendance. If there was already an issue, they had time to email their teacher or get attendance cleared, or at the very least, send a thank you to a staff member. They did a great job in there.
Principal's Coffee:
Principal's Coffee was packed this morning online, and we had a lot of information. If you missed it, here is the presentation: PrincipalsCoffeeSept. Slides from the presentation will also appear below, but not all, so please check it out.
Chavista Meeting: Our Largest Club is Back: We have over 80 members, and their main goal is community building and service. They meet on Thursdays in the 200 Building. Check it out:

RATTLER GEAR: We're frequently asked about CHHS GEAR and where to purchase it. Here is one way: Please check this out before it closes in two weeks! We rotate items, so if you like something you see, buy it now!

Saturday School is BACK: If you have absences, you need to attend these Saturday Schools.
HOW IT WORKS: There is a link with a date (see below). The link opens on WEDNESDAY before Saturday. It begins on that day because we need to staff it appropriately. Years ago, we opened it on Mondays, and a large number of students signed up, but they wouldn't show. Then the staff showed up, and we had to send them home. Students can also sign up in the office with the QR code (see below).
If you do not maintain proper attendance, you will start losing privileges if your attendance is not recorded correctly and cleared. Sign up below and see the following dates, and mark your calendar.

HOMECOMING: EDITED: The dates for all the events were mistaken. It is in the order it always has been, with the game on Friday and the Dance on Saturday.

Grades End September 19:
Commitments to you and your students:
There are many commitments we make to you as a Rattler Community. There are two I want to make sure you remember:
1. You are entitled to your child's up-to-date grades. Please hold our staff accountable by reaching out to the teacher and asking why they may not have been updated. If the issue continues, please email the teacher and copy the proper Associate Principal.
Mr. Willis: World Language, Math, Science
Mr. Liew: English, History, VAPA, PE
2. You are entitled to a response via email or phone within 48 hours. We are usually faster than that, but again, we need to be held accountable to respond to our community. Vacations/breaks/weekend, this rule does not apply, as I, as a leader, strive for my staff to have a proper work-life balance and ensure they are committed to their own families as well as yours.
Football Information: Western THEME: We typically do not post game information at the top of the blog, but there is an update you should be aware of to avoid frustration tonight at our first Home Game. SDUSD now uses Hometown Ticketing, not GoFan (not our decision). Please see the information and link below.

BUY AHEAD!

Counselors:
Counselors are here to help you! Your students ask to see their counselor by going to the CHHS website and clicking on the "Counseling Tab"-then, they click on their counselor to fill out the form. Counselors will then call them to the office. The days when I was in high school, waiting in the Counseling Office, are behind me. This is much more streamlined today. However, in emergencies, you are welcome to come in. "I want to pop in and ask a question during the passing period:" of course! Here's what the page looks like:

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that our school counselors will be visiting English classes in the coming weeks to deliver important grade-level presentations. These sessions are designed to support our students’ academic journey and future planning, covering topics such as:
High school expectations and tips for success
Graduation requirements
Post-secondary planning (college, career, military, etc.)
Resources available to support students throughout high school
Presentations will take place during regularly scheduled English classes on the following dates:
Sophomores: DONE
Seniors: Monday, September 8
Juniors: Wednesday, September 10
English 101 Students: Thursday, September 11
These presentations are an excellent opportunity for students to learn what is expected of them and to begin (or continue) planning for life after high school. We encourage you to follow up with your student after their presentation to discuss what they learned and any questions they may have.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s counselor.
Thank you for your continued support!
Athletic: ALL ATHLETIC INFORMATION- chrattlers.com
Athletics is a very complex program. It's like running a separate school altogether. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations, but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.
The AW Weekly: This lets you know about all the home games happening around campus, so your students can get involved, whether cheering on their friends or participating directly. Your family can also come out and support you.

Dear School Partners & Staff,
We're excited to share our Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Resource Directory for 2025–2026!
This directory is designed to support educators, counselors, and parents/guardians in guiding young people who are affected by or at risk for substance use. Inside, you’ll find up-to-date information on treatment options, local programs, and practical tools to help navigate these challenges with care and confidence. All links, phone numbers, and contacts have been pre-vetted and are local to the regions we serve.
Whether you're revisiting the directory or exploring it for the first time, we hope it continues to be a valuable resource—and one you’ll share with your students, colleagues, and families.
Access the directory here: https://www.saysandiego.org/wp-content/uploads/2nd-Edition-ATOD-Resource-Directory-2025.pdf

We can't wait to see you!
