Hello Rattler Nation,

We hope you had a wonderful and restful break. It is hard to believe that about eight weeks of school are left. There is a lot to do, and everything is jammed up leading up to the last day of school. Make sure your calendars are current, so you don't miss out.

Softball:

The week before the break brought a lot of fun and firsts. Natalie Debus (above) took a massive leap in her athletic career with her 700th strikeout. It is crazy to believe how fantastic the students here at CHHS are regarding their level of academic work, activities, and sports playing. What a tremendous accomplishment.

ColorGuard:

Colorguard won its first-ever West Coast Winterguard Championship! They have just accelerated so fast, and It is not easy to do ColorGuard. I would be scared to throw those flags but our students do it with grace. They took the gold metal in Scholastic Regional A class.

La Manaritas Breakfast honoring School Board Member Richard Barrera:

Each year, the community and student organizers come together in their pursuit of forwarding and continuing the work of Ceasar Chavez. There are a lot of people to be selected and honored. This was very special as it was our Board of Education member, Richard Barrera. His work within his community and with these students and organizations for years is a testament to the work he does every day on behalf of SDUSD. We also had our very own Chavista President Rosemary give the opening speech. We are so proud of both of them.

First Homerun in Baseball:

Congratulations to Samuel Wabe, who hit our first home run of the reason. This student came to us not long ago and has been an amazement on and off the field.

First Look at the Elevator for the Field:

It is almost ready to go. We are referring to it as Pisapia's Tower of Power (feel free to let him know you know this). Here are some snapshots, but again, it is not complete. There is only one elevator inspector in the state, so things take time. We need to finish it as well.

Student Schedules for Next Year! Please follow directions.

A notification went out to students in several ways about looking at their course requests, and we opened the portal for your students to see. The students then started talking, and there were concerns that they believed this was their actual schedule. It has no periods or teachers on it. It is only confirming the course selections they made.

Here's how to access what they see. The change schedule link is being provided to you now rather than right before school starts. If you want to change, it has to happen now, as we have already provided two other opportunities. We hope to have actual schedules for you by the end of the year, but we can't do that if people are changing things at the last minute. We hire teachers based on these requests.

Good Morning, Students and Parents,

As of Thursday, March 27, students can review their course requests for next year in PowerSchool. PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a schedule. This is ONLY a list of courses students have requested for next year. You can do this by clicking on Class Registration in the menu on the left-hand side of PowerSchool:

***DO NOT EMAIL YOUR COUNSELOR WITH YOUR REQUEST. PLEASE COMPLETE THIS FORM WITH YOUR REQUEST AND QUESTIONS.***

If you would like to request a course change you need to submit the following google form no later than Friday, April 11th @ 3:30pm

***COUNSELORS WILL ONLY REVIEW COURSE REQUEST CHANGES FROM GOOGLE FORM AND WILL MEET WITH STUDENTS IF THERE’S A CONFLICT WITH THEIR REQUEST.*****

Weekly Video

For a long time, the ASB has dreamed of producing a short weekly video that would showcase all the upcoming happenings for the week. So far, the videos consist of three segments. This could change and grow in the future.

1. Field and Stage

Everything is happening in the world of sports and VAPA for the week.

2. 100 in 100

News from the 100 buildings in less than 100 seconds.

3. The 411 (and yes, Gen Z has no idea what 411 is. But trust the process)

ASB’s room number is 411, and those born in the 1900s remember what happened when you used to dial 411. This segment will simply be information from ASB.

The plan.

We are creating a three—to four-minute video that will eventually replace Monday’s bulletin. The videos are a little rough right now as we get used to the process and work out the bugs. Our first video is linked below. We hope you enjoy it!

Senior Event: Flock a Senior: Anyone can do this!

 Athletics:

Athletics is a very complex programit's like running a separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.

IMIN After and Before School Programs:

I talk a lot about our after and before-school programs, and I always hear things like, "I didn't know you had that?" I want to ensure you know there are many things here to do for students and make them feel connected. We also have experiences for students such as field trips, people in the industry, driver ed., and more. PLEASE look at this site and check it out. We are also working on balancing things for the AM because of athletes, etc, since they are away at games and other students have jobs. Below is a picture of only one part of the front page.
