Hello Rattler Nation!
Last week was very full of events of all kinds. We were so busy that there were many 12-plus hour days. When we have all these exciting things going on, it is hard to say no when students ask us to come. This Friday is off for students and staff; the CHHS Administration will be working. Please enjoy your day. Senior parents, if you are ready to start getting pumped for the last two months of school, it all starts with flocking! To end the season is Grad Nite--see towards the end of this blog!

Budget Week: Please be patient with us this week!

This week, we open our books and plan for next year. This is the busiest week of the year, and we must ensure we get it right. This is why you fill out course cards so far in advance. I have to hire the teachers for the courses the students want...which is also why we don't allow schedule changes. I already hired the people. Things are tough right now with the SDUSD budget. We thank you for your patience as we move through this process and all of you who provided us feedback through our many venues.
Daylight Savings: This Sunday! We Spring forward:

Theater:
Be More Chill had us not chill at all. We were amazed at how well our students sounded and acted. HUGE thanks to Nicole Catalupo, our Theater teacher!!! She is amazing.
Writers Symposium at PLNU:

Students from CHHS had the opportunity to attend the PL Nazarene Writers Symposium! This year, there was writing that redeems. These heavy-hitting guests were the perfect choice to inspire our students. We go every year and it just gets better and better.
Past guest writers have included Cornel West, Amy Tan, David Brooks, Alice Walker, Philip Yancey, Anne Lamott, Bill Moyers, and many more.
This year's award-winning writers include Jesmyn Ward (Let Us Descend, Sing, Unburied, Sing), Sandra Cisneros (The House on Mango Street, Woman Without Shame), and Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie, The Little Liar).
Spring Sports has Started! For all things sports, see below under Athletics:

Girls Lacrosse in the first game of the season went to triple overtime with a win over Olympian H.S with the score of 10-9
IMIN After and Before School Programs:

I talk a lot about our after and before-school programs, and I always hear things like, "I didn't know you had that?" I want to ensure you know there are many things here to do for students and make them feel connected. We also have experiences for students such as field trips, people in the industry, driver ed., and more. PLEASE look at this site and check it out. We are also working on balancing things for the AM because of athletes, etc, since they are away at games and other students have jobs. Below is a picture of only one part of the front page.

FAFSA/Dream ACT
San Diego Unified School District is hosting workshops to help students complete the FAFSA/Dream Act Applications. The FAFSA/DREAM ACT is a free government form that students can use to apply for college or career school financial aid. The FAFSA can help students determine eligibility for grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and loans. Workshops provide one-on-one assistance and guidance. Students can pre-register to guarantee one-on-one guidance, but walk-ins are also welcomed.
Scholarships: We also always have all or other scholarships posted under counseling on our website, and you can see that here:https://canyonhillsrattlers.wixsite.com/website-4

Senior GradNITE and Flocking:

Athletics:
Athletics is a very complex program—it's like running a separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.

Girl's Basketball got all sorts of accolades in finishing the season strong. Check it out:
3 CCHS girls basketball players selected to the Central league teams:
and that is not all: We had two honorable mentions!!
