Dear Serra Community,
I want to remind you that TCOB (Taking Care of Business) is tomorrow. Here are the details again.
OFFICE: Open 9-12 tomorrow for everyone
MEDIA CENTER: Open from 1-4 tomorrow for book and computer issues.
Lastly, the work of Governance Committee and School Site Council are starting and I want to thank all of you who submitted to be on them. We had the biggest turnout in my three and a half years at Serra. We want to start the voting process immediately to give people time as SSC has a meeting date next week on Thursday from 2:30-3:30.
Please look at the biographies for each candidate by clicking here
Please cast your vote by clicking here.
Voting will close SUNDAY at noon September 20, 2020.
Lastly, I have been going into classrooms online and see many students (half about) with their cameras off. We understand you may not want your homes to be seen but you can set a virtual background. Students are more than knowledgable in how to create one and if not we will help them. Then when called on by the teacher they don't respond meaning they aren't even in the room. It is an expectation that they are on with virtual background. We understand and acknowledge that there are times when they may need to get up (get food, use restroom) and they are more than ok to turn off camera to go and do that.
Please be prepared because our teachers are going to start leaving messages for you about your children not be seen which equates to disengaging and not participating. Please refer to the citizenship rubric as this can affect that grade and you need a 2.0 to graduate. It's the simplest thing but very important as my teachers don't want to talk to black screens because no one is on.
I'll be reiterating this in my blog on Friday.
Thank you for the support in this matter as just doing this will have a tremendous impact.
Dr. Renfree
