SPECIAL EDITION

Dear Serra Community,

I hope everyone is safe and healthy after another week in this pandemic.

We will get right to it.

Updates:

San Diego Unified School District and San Diego Teachers Association reached a tentative agreement last week. That agreement has not been voted on yet and wont be until next week. Then and only then can I produce a schedule for you. However I will tell you I convened a student panel, parent panel, department chair panel, middle school principals (Farb and DP) and finally our Governance Committee to review the options and they have given more than enough feedback on schedules for us to move forward as soon as the union votes on the agreement.

We are going to do the very best we can for you and will work hard to help you in anyway we can!

We are still working on the Handbook, Weekly schedule of to do's, and the bridge programs.

Here are the updates on those items:

  1. Handbook should be finished around the time the schedule is voted on by teachers union (next week).

  2. Weekly schedule of to do's for you is here through the first day of school which is August 31st, 2020. Here you go:

August 10-14: WAS BRIDGE/Orientation for all grades--POSTPONED--We have not received the computers we need for students and we want everyone to have the ability to attend. Ill post the schedule as soon as we know it with plenty of time to make sure everyone has a computer. However we will still be doing our Name Mascot and Colors Forums

August 10-14: Zoom Meetings on Name, Mascot, Colors--See below--LAST CHANCE--

This will be your last opportunity to attend ZOOM Meetings about this topic. Ballots will be distributed in your packets for you to fill out and drop off at your designated times August 17-21.-----Meeting times and days will come out on Friday for parents and students.

August 17-21: Packet Pick-Up and Drop Off--MANDATORY--FRONT OF SCHOOL LOCATION

Please see the schedule. Failure to pick up and drop off packet will cause you to not be scheduled for classes. This process happens every year and usually is never an issue but please make sure you come and get it and drop it off.

SCHOOL STARTS AUGUST 31st!!!!!!!!

SATS:

As of today SDUSD is in the process of cancelling the August administration at Serra. The colleges (most of them) are waiving scores for the next two years. If you were planning on taking them we apologize.

Senior Photos and School Photos:

These will be taken by Lifetouch and we have reached out to form a schedule. It's a complicated process for over 1400 students and staying with in CDC guidelines.

Emergency Rental Assistance:

If you need support during this time in order to stay in your home and you rent there are options!

In summary:

  1. Attend a last chance Zoom on the mascot issue next week.

  2. Show up to your packet pick up day and return on drop off day

  3. Fill out your ballot and return on drop off day.

  4. Get ready for distance learning and be on the lookout for your technology day--coming soon.

Thanks,

Dr. Erica Renfree
