Epilepsy is a neurological condition and affects people of all ages. It is the fourth most common neurological condition. Every year, one-hundred-fifty thousand (150,000) people are diagnosed with epilepsy. In the US, 3.4 million people live with epilepsy, 470,000 of which are children, and approximately 1 in 26 people in the US will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. One in three adults knows someone with epilepsy.

Epilepsy is incurable and only treatable to an extent. Epilepsy creates abnormal brain activity, usually resulting in seizures, but it can also cause momentary loss of awareness, sensations, or momentary, atypical behavior. Epilepsy is generally diagnosed after two seizures, and anyone can have a seizure. Thus, anyone can develop epilepsy. That is why Epilepsy Awareness Month was created by the National Epilepsy Foundation - to make people aware of epilepsy and inform the public of what to do when someone is having a seizure, as well as to raise money for epilepsy research.

Students in Serra ASB are joining this cause. Many are making posters that will be put up in the hallways. There is spirit day planned were you wear purple for epilepsy awareness. Purple ribbons for epilepsy awareness will also be passed out one day at lunch.

We are very busy these days prepping for two major qualifying drill meets. The first one is next Saturday hosted by Pacifica HS in Orange County, and the next will be at Patrick Henry on 14 December.

What's Happening in ROTC?

In a nutshell.... We have 36 cadets practicing daily on various drill, color guard, athletic and academic teams. All of these teams will be competing in those field meets.  The kid's participation and enthusiasm is the best I've seen in years.

We also have over 45 cadets helping out with today's band tournament. Our volunteers will be assisting in many different areas of the competition. This is the third year we helped oust this event.
