Hello Rattler Nation-

Thank you all so much for the positive feedback regarding our communications with events on campus this week. These events are never ideal, and my job is to be as transparent as possible. The incident now rests at a higher level we are not privy to. We thank you for trusting us with your students.

Principal Irene Hightower: Hancock Elementary

As many of you know, Irene Hightower, Principal of Hancock Elementary, passed away unexpectedly. I know many of our feeder schools put out notifications. I also know that there may be students on this campus who had her as a Principal. She was amazing.

I did not put out a message, but I want to acknowledge it. Principal Hightower and I consider each other best friends. I was with her in the last days of her life and right after and therefore she was my priority at that time. I thank my colleagues for sending their messages out. Above is a photo of her last night. I'm sure you saw it as they said there hadn't been a sunset like that in 10 years. Fitting, I thought.

Should your child have known her or had her, we share the grief that comes with unexpected death. Should your student want to talk about her, let them know they can come to me.

I know the community is devastated, and I share in that. Thank you to those who knew I was with her and for the comfort you provided me. It was an honor and a gift to be with her when she passed.

Principal's Coffee: We had another great Principal's Coffee. In case you missed it, here is the presentation.

Few Reminders:

Semester 1 absences roll over in Semester 2.

Saturday School is not every Saturday. You have been receiving letters via email, and students have been sent additional reminders, with more to follow. If you are a senior, we also had a Senior Contract that was reviewed in class and signed by you.

Please make sure you sign up so you know your child is eligible not only for school activities but also for PROM!

HOW IT WORKS: There is a link with a date (see below). The link opens on WEDNESDAY before Saturday. It begins on that day because we need to staff it appropriately. Years ago, we opened it on Mondays, and many students signed up, but they never showed up. Then the staff showed up, and we had to send them home.

If you do not maintain proper attendance, you will start losing privileges if your attendance is not recorded correctly and cleared. Sign up below to view the following dates and mark your calendar.

Athletic: ALL ATHLETIC INFORMATION- chrattlers.com

Athletics is a very complex program. It's like running a separate school altogether. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations, but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.

The AW Weekly: This lets you know about all the home games happening around campus, so your students can get involved, whether cheering on their friends or participating directly. Your family can also come out and support you.
