Practice Makes Perfect!

Hello Q-Nation!

A great week was had by all in the house of SHS! We had our Great California Shakeout which went smoothly; all students were back in class in under 25 minutes. On Wednesday, we held the PSAT for sophomores and juniors in the Gym and Media Center. The students were so cooperative and gave it their best. Tonight, we have an away football game against Claremont. Lastly, P1 progress report grades are now available online--if you have any questions about grades, please reach out to your child's teacher. Additionally, please make sure you are looking at attendance for your child in PowerSchool and that you are getting any absences cleared to avoid being assigned Saturday school. Lastly, Sports Physicals are next week. Look under Athletics for the details.

NOTE: SATURDAY SCHOOL TOMORROW, 10/19, from 8-12; you must be on time to room 211B. Reminders went out and phone call homes. See you there.

Did you know we have SHS gear! Check it out! Proceeds go to our Serra Foundation....please go to http://serrafoundation.org/ to order.

Knowledge is Power! Did you know that once a month we tour classrooms--on "Learning Walks"-- with teachers in order to gain insight into what best practices and learning activities teachers are using so others can try them? Anyone on Serra staff is invited to take a walk through our classrooms.

We need your help!

NO ONE HAS COME FORWARD AS OF NOW, and we need your help! It takes a village.

SHS is looking for parent volunteers to help with campus observation. The more eyes we have on campus, the safer and more of a deterrent it is for students to choose behavior that is not acceptable. If you are interested in donating your time, we could use you. We are looking for people to stand at gates and also be in the media center at lunch so we can open it for students. If you are interested please email Vice Principal, Nicholas Willis at nwillis@sandi.net. It takes a village. This is not you "busting kids"--that is our job! Think of it like neighborhood watchdog group! You just watch and report. We will give you a cool radio to use!

Next Week's Calendar:

Monday: Assembly: "What goes around comes around." See below.

Tuesday: Club Rush at Lunch Come join a club! and College and Career Night at 6 pm.

Wednesday: Band Practice at night.

Thursday: Nurses meeting at SHS and Winter Sports Meeting at lunch (for all athletes interested in a winter sport).

Friday: Principal's Coffee---Please join us at 730 AM for all things SHS. Nothing is off limits.

What is "What Goes Around":

On Monday, October 21st Kaiser Permanente will be hosting an assembly about STD/HIV Prevention Program for grades 9 – 12.

The program uses technology and references social media as a way of engaging students while providing health information about sexually transmitted diseases in a topical way. Students hear the facts and myths about STDs and see how the choices they make have a lasting impact on their lives and the lives of other people. The program supports the Health Education Content Standards for California Public Schools and is compliant with the California Healthy Youth Act.

If you would rather your student not go to this assembly, please send them to school with a short letter asking them to be excused from the assembly. They can present this letter to their teacher prior to the assembly.

For more information about this assembly, click HERE.
