Hello Conquistador Nation!
It's Black History Month! Each week we are celebrating the amazing accomplishments of African Americans in our society. Today we talked about a quote from Rosa Parks: "You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it's right." This applies to so many things in our lives. Sometimes what is right is hard...or at least feels that way especially for our teenagers. We as a school are here to support your teens and hopefully lower the fear factor.
We had an amazing articulation night for 9-11th grade parents and we are about to post the the presentation under the counseling website. We had our Springs Sports Meeting and are looking forward to the beginning of the Spring Season! PHYSICALS are today in the PE Bungalow 30.00 from 2:20-3:20.

Governance and SSC are going to combine and money and master schedule will be talked about. We at that point will be executing the decisions made by both boards. This is in order to have full transparency. The community is always welcome to come!
AND NOW YOU KNOW!
Instruction Spotlight!:
Twice a month all Serra teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities. At Serra, the first PLC of the month involves teachers reviewing upcoming assessments and activities. During the second PLC, teachers review the results of those assessments and activities. On Wednesday, teachers immersed themselves in bar graphs, percentages, skills and standards from their Semester 1 grades and final exams. Teachers identified areas of student success and struggle and are planning forward to ensure all students have a great start to the second half of the year. NJROTC used electronic “clickers” that capture students’ responses to standardized questions; student promotions within the program were considered, and students even participated in different versions of the test depending on their ranks. The math department uses a program called Illuminate to perform more in depth item analysis and target individual skills students struggled with (inequalities still need work!!). Even our VAPA department engaged in discussion around rigorous assessments in theatre, visual, and musical arts!
Athletics: SPRING SPORTS ARE HERE in a week! CHECK MAX PREPS!A great way to spend your evenings is with SHS Athletics and our amazing events.
