The is ALDO. Aldo was born in a refugee camp. His mother and father are from the countries of Sudan and Uganda. There are 9 kids in his family. Aldo is an amazing young man--he gets good grades and he runs track.
Recently, Aldo had the pleasure of interviewing for a non profit organization that focuses on finding donors to donate not only to their cause but also donors to sponsor students. If a student gets sponsored, they get 1000 dollars in an account for needs for the year. It could be anything school related...academic, athletic, social emotional. Any student who is chosen gets access to a ton of funds for trips to colleges and more. Aldo's interview and story was so inspiring that the person who interviewed him was moved immediately. She was supposed to pass his information along but instead decided to write a check herself right then and there. Aldo is in 10th grade! It was an honor to join him in celebrating his award.

ALL SENIOR PARENTS: Please read this!!!!
Senior Ditch Day was today; however, kids figured out we told people and now it's Monday. FYI
In addition, I'm very saddened to say that if I was to print grades and absences right now today and use them for graduation, 134 seniors will not be present for any events and the ceremony. That is half of the senior class. Your child can not participate in any senior activity if there are any unexcused absences or attendance issues. Seniors are coming and going off campus as they please. Please check PowerSchool. Do not assume your child is good or you will be heartbroken. We only have a very few amount of Saturday Schools left.
Senior Boosters:
Dear Parents of Graduating Seniors,
As the year end draws closer the Senior Parent Booster Club is still actively fundraising to provide this year's Senior Class activities which include such events as Grad Nite, Senior Luncheon and Graduation.
Please help us reach our goals for these events by making a tax-deductible donation of $50.00-$100.00. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
Donations can either be made online using this link, squareup.com/store/serra-senior-parent-boosters or you can write a check payable to Serra Senior Parent Boosters. If writing a check please address the envelope "Class of 2019" as well as in the memo of the check. Checks can be dropped off in the front of the office.
For those of you who have made donations and or volunteered your time, it is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

PTO Fundraiser!
Please use the following link and or the attachment to help spread the word about the PTO Fundraiser.https://conta.cc/2FdudGA
We need everyone to pitch in and get people to sign up, and show up for the fundraiser to make it a successful event. Any donations you can give for prizes are appreciated, nothing is too small. Please try to bring 5-7 or more people to the event, and signing up ahead of time is key, because we can only fit 60 people in the gym per hour, we have two time slots right now (12pm & 1pm), but if we need a third hour Dan (the gym owner) is willing to add a third hour. This going to be fun, but I need your help to make it a success. Please let me know if you have any questions, or suggestions.
Thank you, Marlene Wahlster PTO President

OPPORTUNITIES:
SERRA HIGH AND USD!I am excited to announce that SHS students have the opportunity to work with USD this upcoming summer on their Social Fabric Initiative project within the Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice! The Social Fabric Initiative (SFI) builds more connected communities by mobilizing youth to engineer creative solutions to real-world issues. SFI takes a multi-dimensional approach to peace building and change making in San Diego and TJ through the creation of Threads: small and diverse teams of local high school students (Youth Peace Leaders), a university intern (that's me), and a field-based mentor who utilize the summer to design, monitor, and implement a community change project. This is a wonderful opportunity for Serra students to participate in as youth peace leaders! The application closes April 22nd. Pamphlets and additional information are in the counseling office today! Here is the link to the SFI website: https://www.krocsfi.org/ Here is the link for students to apply: https://sandiego.secure.force.com/form?formid=218568
