Amazing Week!

Hello Q-nation! Another great week for the Q's. We had our pep rally on Friday and we had Mr. Barlow come back from deployment that day and surprise his daughter who was overwhelmed with happiness. I want to thank Chris Pedersen our Photo Pathway teacher for really doing an amazing job at capturing this very special moment. It was so moving Im framing it for my office! We also went through a very stressful and meticulous audit from Sacramento of our Pathway programs. We are proud to say that we were highlighted as one of the best schools in the district for our comprehensive programs and commitment to the vision of not only the district but the state. Lastly we had ROTC annual pass and review and we passed with flying colors. Picture is below. We had two military fathers be able to be special guests and one father was fortunate enough to award his son a medal during the ceremony.

Lastly I was invited to Laurels for Leaders which is a luncheon to celebrate the amazing work of all ASB Presidents and their families in the county. It was my honor to celebrate Marco Abbiate and all his efforts and work as the ASB president.

Reminders:

Attendance is key to participation in activities. Especially for seniors which many will at this point not be participating in senior events at the end of the year including graduation. You can not have any unexcused absences.

Saturday school: Notices are not going out to parents and students this weekend. However there is Saturday school tomorrow. Your child may just show up. Please check their attendance in powerschool and any irregularities they should be in attendance.

Staff Parking Permits: Staff now has parking permits. We as staff has been unable to park in the staff lot due to the abundance of students parking there. Even our cafeteria staff has no where to park and many of them are older. Starting next week we will be enforcing this and students are subject to citation. Please remind them to park in the lot that is designated for them and has an infinite number of spaces. There is plenty of room for them. We do not want to issue you or your child a citation. It is the same students every time. Also the parking near the 900 building is also considered staff parking. Please remind your child to park in their proper lot.

AND NOW YOU KNOW!

ASB:

Last Friday and Saturday, ASB successfully put on their Brown and Gold Rally and galaxy themed formal dance, Astroworld. The pep rally had many different activities, ranging from the national anthem, to a lightsaber duel from Jedi Order Club. The pep rally also turned to evoke other emotions: joy from proposals, excitement from lightsaber duels, and school pride from ROTC and color guard.

Following the pep rally, formal was the next night. The Science Center it was held at offered many different exhibits for students to play with; it offered something for everyone, even those who didn't want to dance. There was a maze, spinny chair, a merry-go-round physics challenge, and even a ball pit, among all the other educational exhibits found on the second floor of the museum. Food was catered by a French cafe, and were delicious. ASB can’t wait to put on more fun events like these two!

On March 7th our students helped Tierrasanta Elementary with their fun run! We love the opportunities that school is providing to our students to build bridges for our kids.

ROTC:

On Tuesday, March 5th 2019, one-hundred-and-forty-one Serra cadets participated in AMI, (Annual Military Inspection). This is large scale, once a year ceremony where JROTC area manager CMR Rick Jordan (ret),  personally inspects every individual cadet. This event is also a means to promote and award cadets for their outstanding citizenship, leadership, and academics. This year’s AMI was a success, and we hope for you to join us next year! Hoorah Serra!

VAPA:

Aaron Blokker (Theater teacher) and Kelly Hatfield (student) named SDUSD VAPA Spotlight Awards! SHS took top honors in VAPA in the district this year! Ceremony will take place next Wednesday and it is a huge honor. You can see the article here!
