Summer Edition! School is fast approaching!

Dear Conquistadors!

We are so excited to see you soon and welcome to the ninth graders!

Its hard to believe that we are just a few short weeks away from starting the new year;

with that being said we are very excited and a lot is going to start happening quickly.

This blog is to serve as another step of communication between SHS and you; our amazing community. If you know an incoming freshman family I implore you to invite them to subscribe to the blog. Freshman parents if you are reading this please click the top of the blog to subscribe. This comes out every week in email and is the go-to place for information on all things happening at SHS. Following this blog will be a SPECIAL Edition (next week) of the Blog focusing separately on our Foundation/PTO and why you need to be a part of it--do not miss that opportunity!

Here are some things you need to know before the year gets going.

Bocce Ball!!!!!

Be Sure to Register for the 5th Annual Tierrasanta Bocce Tournament – All Proceeds Go to Serra High School Foundation

The Tierrasanta Bocce Tournament will be held on August 24, 2019 at the Tierrasanta Recreation Center. Over the past five years, this has become one of the most popular events in our community. Each year, we’ve been able to grow our number of teams, making it bigger, better, more competitive and more fun for everyone! If you haven’t participated yet, save the date and get your team together to register! Registration is live at www.SerraFoundation.org and includes at least four head-to-head games of competitive and fun bocce. The event is 21+, but will be followed by the all-ages Tierrasanta Music in the Park series, featuring Four Car Garage, making it an all-day, all-evening way to end your summer!

Every penny raised from this event goes back to supporting Serra students and we believe that lifting up local students is one of the best ways to lift up our entire community!

The mission of the Serra High School Foundation is to improve the future quality of life in our community through enhancing academic and athletic programs at Serra High School. Membership is open to the entire community. A variety of corporate sponsorships are also available. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that offers both volunteer and giving opportunities. See www.SerraFoundation.org for more information.📷

Freshman Bridge is August 12-15 its going to be amazing!

New Students Enrollment is August 19th

Teachers report back August 21-23 they will be prepping and we ask you respect their preparation time and not contact them until after the first day of school.

You will get your schedules on Day 1 of school. If we can get them to you during orientation we will but right now we are error checking. There are no changes to schedules unless a gross error is made.

A gross error is defined as issues such as 2 math courses, a class you already took, or a course that is needed that was skipped for some reason. The counseling staff has a new website on the SHS page and you will use that in order to contact your counselor if there is an error. If you are requesting a different teacher or period you will not be called in as that is not an error; the master schedule is a very delicate system and moving one child is a domino for 35 other students. It's not as easy as just switching. In addition any other issues you have outside of your schedule you can also access the counseling website. Counselors triage the issues by matter of importance. Please be patient with them, and counseling office will be closed the first week of school in order for counselors to make the gross error changes. If counseling gets done before the end of the week they will open. Please for the fastest service possible use the website.

The first day of school is August 26th at 730 AM.

We have new gates in order to now fully secure campus and these gates close at 730. After that time you must enter through the office. Please also make sure you students are parking in their parking lot as the staff has permits for their lot. You want to avoid a ticket.

Let's get this year started!

Sincerely,

Erica, Nicholas, and Elizabeth--working for you to make SHS amazing!
