Hello 2025! Semester 2 is Here!

Hello Rattler Nation!

I hope you had a well-rested break and could recharge as a family. It seems to be that way for the students here. We have had a relatively slow week here at school for the last four days. Students have been great, attending classes, and seem to be rested. We have a slow week coming up as well. However, there are plenty of athletics, so come and watch.

Ninth Grade Celebrations: See picture above.

All the ninth graders had an assembly where we celebrated all their hard work in Semester 1. As you can see, they did amazing, and their peers cheered them on. They have done better than the last two classes before them and are models for the new class coming in in the fall. The best part was all 400 plus received ice cream of some sort to celebrate.

Friday Night Games here at CHHS:

Watch our Girls and Boys' Basketball team play tonight here at CHHS. The games are at 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Please be aware that ticket prices have gone up.

Saturday Cheer Exhibition:

There is a cheer exhibition tomorrow at Mira Mesa. Our cheerleaders go on at 10:06 and 12:58. It would be amazing to come out and see all the hard work they put into these events.

Break:

Over the Holiday, we hosted the So Cal Girls HS Basketball Tournament. Teams from all over the nation compete at multiple high schools. Canyon Hills is the host of all the tournaments and games. It was terrific to see Coach Q put it on and do so for the betterment of all-girls basketball, not just CHHS.

I was at the games for our students for over three days and was able to watch other teams as well. I was amazed to see the finals, the #1 Girl's Basketball Team in the nation vs. the #8 team. Many of these girls are given scholarships to the Top 10 schools, and some are already WNBA-bound after their college commitment. It was amazing to see and great publicity for us.

Saturday School is Back: The link is running, and we apologize for being late. We sent this message via phone and email and reminded students over the PA today.

Parents/Students:   This Saturday, we are offering Core Academy.   Why Core Academy?   Students receive academic support, clear six tardies/ absences (improve citizenship), and clear tardies and absences to attend a school function.

Cell Phone Usage in the Classroom:

SDUSD has zero phones in the classroom policy. We acknowledge that. A phone can be a valuable tool for learning. However, things like bullying, leaving class to meet friends, etc, can ensue when not used that way. CHHS has done a fantastic job of teaching students why it is this way and that they can use their phones at varying times: passing period, lunch, and in class as an educational tool. The following policy is what CHHS does in case a staff member encounters a student using their phone for reasons that are a distraction. Here is the policy so you are aware.

Calendar:

MARK your calendars: January 20th, 2025, is MLK Day, and there is no school!

It's a slow week next week, so come check out our sports here at CHHS. The schedule for the athletics section is below.

Tuesday: SGT, which has been moved to 2 weeks from now, is canceled on this day.

Wednesday: Nothing

Thursday: is Early Out

Friday: Nothing

Senior GradNITE:

Athletics:

Athletics is a very complex programit's like running a separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.

ASB:

We are happy to announce our Spring Fling (formerly Winter Formal) dance will be on March 22 at the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park.  Tickets will go on sale next week.

Our annual Lip Dub will begin filming this Month.  This year, we are using a mash-up of Gen Z-approved songs. Our goal is to include as many Rattlers as possible.

The prom is on May 17th at the House of Blues.  Tickets will be on sale soon.  The Senior class is currently reviewing their budget and deciding on ticket prices.  Their goal is to make the Prom affordable to all!
