Hello Rattler Nation!

Happy Friday. We have had many student groups meeting to make their voices heard and make changes within our campus. The Black Student Union is one of those groups. All are welcome, and if your student needs something to be connected to, this is a great option. They do events, have fun at lunch, learn about colleges, and how to be successful within their communities. If interested, seek our Mrs. Aranda at saranda@sandi.net. She is fantastic and the advisor. Picture is above.

Honor Roll:

We honored our students in an assembly and gave them all treats for their hard work. Their names are posted in the front of the office for all to see. We are so proud of them!

Marquis:

So many calls about this. Yes, we are aware that the time is wrong. Yes, we are aware you don't like the font. Yes, we are aware we haven't posted anything. The reason? We do not yet have the switchboard to interact with it. Once we get that and are trained, as it's very high-tech, then we can start using it. I'm hoping in the next two weeks. Please be patient with us. We would never just allow it to be the way it is. THANK YOU!

Did you know?????

  1. CHHS has over 50 percent of students who are athletes! That's more than any other high school, and we also have more sports than most. Athletics is excellent for many reasons, and if your student is eligible, they should consider joining. Many of our teams have students who are new to the game. You don't have to be doing a sport your entire life to play for CHHS.

  2. Administration is REQUIRED by CIF rules to be present at certain games. Administration is also required at the HOME and AWAY games. Many times we hear.."Admin only cares about football because they are always there." That is absolutely not true. CIF regulations tell us where we have to be and anything else is on top of that on our own time.

Example: Winter: If we have a night of basketball and soccer, which happens a lot, that means there are 4 games. Usually 2 HOME and 2 AWAY. We have to be at all of them. There are only 3 of us so we need to pay someone to go where we can't cover. Also, we have to be at every playoff game for all sports and any rivalry games. If a game is in LA or Brawley or we advance up the state, we must travel. The administration does not get paid for any of this (not that we care), but it helps to know that while you may not see us, we may be at another site somewhere supervising that game. Sometimes, we even have four away games, and none of us are around as we are all over the county or beyond.

  3. The administration probably spends at least 3 nights a week at sporting events. Then, add Theater and Vapa and all other sports that aren't required but that we want to show support for.

****We all have little children, and sometimes we can't go to any games that day that aren't required because we are exhausted and need to see our children. Those nights we go home feeling bad, we didn't go. Work-life balance is so hard!****

We had so many games this past week and also this upcoming week. Please check out the A. Weekly below below to come out and support. I was at four games last week, and I think maybe five games next week. Here is a picture from Girl's Soccer mid-week.

Gentle Reminders:

Parking:

Parking in the front lot. Please do not park in the front lot. There is street parking and parking lot parking in front of the 1000 building. We have 4-5 cars on the island daily because non-staff are in those spaces. We need our vehicles to be in our spaces for safety, to set a good example, and in case of an emergency with a child or family or in the community, we need easy access.

Also, at dismissal, we receive complaints again that parents are parked in both lanes in front of the school. The lanes are not parking lots either, and other parents and students driving through cannot get where they need to go. Please arrange another pick-up spot. If you are handicapped, we have designated spaces. Your students walk around school all day long. They can walk to your car as well. Please help us by also setting a good example.

Athletic Clearance:

Please see how to go about filing your clearance paperwork for sports. Nurse Ashley has zero knowledge of how to do that, nor is she involved in any aspect. Her job is to manage students who are ill.

Athletics:

Athletics is a very complex programit's like running a separate school. While I can highlight a few things here, you must check that website daily and contact the proper coaches. This blog highlights sporting events with pictures and celebrations but doesn't get into the operations of athletics. Please bookmark that site so you have it. CHHS has one of the most extensive programs in the county and state.
